Pathologic rouleaux, plasma cell, Multiple myeloma

An area thinner than ideal for proper evaluation. On a normal smear most of the red cells would be separate. In this field there are many doublets, triplets and even longer chains of the red cells. This is pathologic rouleaux and suggests increased and/or abnormal plasma proteins. There is a bluish tinge to the background. One mature neutrophil and one Plasma Cell are present. Multiple myeloma. Blood - 50X
