Mature and young megakaryocytes, mitosis, M-7 leukemia

The Abnormal Mature Megakaryocyte at left center shows an uneven (7) number of nuclei which are unequal in size. The cytoplasm is surrounded by vacuoles. Above it is a small cell with a very high nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio, a very dense nucleus and a prominent Golgi area. It could be an early megakaryocyte, however, the dense nucleus suggests disparity in maturation. At the upper right corner is a small mature megakaryocyte with poor cytoplasmic development. At lower center is an Abnormal Mature Megakaryocyte with few and unequal size nuclei and poorly developed cytoplasmic granulation. Above it is a Young Megakaryocyte in the process of Mitosis. Acute Megakaryocytic Leukemia (M-7). Marrow - 50X
